Below is a roster of the officers and enlisted men of Company D of the 15th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment, which served with distinction in the Federal Army during the American Civil War.
Company D called itself the "Norway Wolf Hunters," but was also called the "Waupun Company" because so many of its members were from the Town of Waupun. Company D was recruited from the Towns of: Oconomowoc in Waukesha County; Waupun in Dodge County; New Lisbon in Juneua County; Mount Horeb in Dane County; and Waterford in Racine County -- all in the State of Wisconsin. A few in Company D were recruited from the City of Chicago, State of Illinois, and from Winneshiek County, State of Iowa.
The 15th was known as the "Scandinavian Regiment" because its officers and enlisted men were almost all immigrants, predominantly from Norway, but also from Denmark and Sweden. While men from these countries served in many different Civil War units, Federal and Confederate, the 15th was the only 'all Scandinavian' regiment on either side.
Here are some things you should know before you use this roster.
