Unknown Private

15th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry
The Scandinavian Regiment

Photo of an unknown Private in uniform.

This Private had his image taken by "J. B. Medlar" in Jefferson, Wisconsin. There is something faintly written across the top left part of the photo.  He is wearing a forage cap with what looks like something pinned to the top, holding a Dresden Rifle Musket similar to those issued to the 15th at Camp Randall in early 1862, and is wearing a frock coat like the 15th first received in late May, 1862. Since the photo was taken in Jefferson, it suggests he had his image taken when he was: first enlisted as a recruit sometime after the 15th left Wisconsin in March 1862; back in Wisconsin on recruiting duty in December 1863 through that winter; or at home on leave sometime after May 1862.  If you have any idea who this forgotten soldier is, then please contact Marc and Beth Storch who own this photo and have provided permission for its use. Thank you for any clues you can provide!
