On September 17-19, 1999, some 8,000 Civil War reenactors took part in a recreation of the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia. This took place near the original battlefield, just south of Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was the very first time that the 15th and Heg's Brigade were ever portrayed at a modern reenactment; it may be the only time they ever will be. Extensive research was done to make it an historically accurate portrayal, and this web site was created to publish the results. Portraying the 15th were reenactors from the original states it drew soldiers from (Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin), and from Norway and Denmark where most of its soldiers were born. Some of the reenactors (and about 50 of the spectators) will be descendants of 15th soldiers. More information about the 15th and Heg's Brigade at the original battle, and about the recreation of them at the reenactment, is available through the links below.
