The photo above was taken during the Old World Wisconsin Civil War event on Labor Day Weekend 1999. The event focused on the 15th Wisconsin, the famed "Scandinavian Regiment," which had fought in the American Civil War (1861-1865). The event also featured a reunion of descendants of the 15th's original soldiers.

The Civil War reenactors who were present during some or all of the event belonged to a number of Midwest US-based groups, including the 3rd Wisconsin, the 33rd Wisconsin, the Stragglers, the Dirty Shirts, and the Hoggs Mess.
