This is part of a map entitled "Position of 2nd Brigade 4th Division Army of Mississippi" and subtitled "Camp Erikson near Jacento Mis. July 3rd, 1862." The top of the map points northwest and its scale is labeled "1 Pace = 2 Feet 1/2500." The area shown above is about 2,000 feet across.
The 15th Wisconsin's camp is slightly to the right of the middle of the map. Visible are 8 rows of tents aligned on an east/west axis, each of which housed a company (Companies G and I were absent). The long row of tents aligned on a north/south axis housed company officers. The 6 larger tents just to the west of the long row housed regimental officers. Just above the camp is a small cluster of 4 tents labeled "Hospital."
Downhill from the camp to the north and east are meandering lines labeled "Creek." The road that runs from the bottom of the map straight up the middle and turns left near the top is labeled "road to Tuscumbria Al." [Alabama].
This map was hand-drawn using pen and ink by the 15th's Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant Ole R. Dahl, who was later a 1st lieutenant serving as Brigade Topographical Officer.
